Community members in attendance will be provided with strategies to encourage healthy decision making, support teen mental health, & create healthy home environments. The film also provides our students with healthy ways to support one another when dealing with the influence of social media, drugs, alcohol, and vaping.

Mrs. Wells along with students in third grade conducted experiments earlier this week involving soda. The goal was to find out what causes the reaction between a diet soda and Mentos candy: the sugar in the candy or the texture of the candy. They dropped Mentos, gummy bears and sand into three different bottles to see which would create the most (highest) reaction. The sand produced the highest geyser, proving that the texture was the cause of the reaction.

Meet the compost crew! Mrs. Darder's second grade class learned all about compost this week in science! They read some great books and set up a compost system that they will do each day in school to reduce food waste and to help nourish the plants in our school garden. To conclude their unit, they made mini- composters that they will add to and watch breakdown over time.
Practice was a bit ... different ... for the girls volleyball teams earlier this week. It was "anything but kneepads" practice day, with the players using dolls, stuffed animals, yarn, bandanas and so much more in place of the standard kneepads.

As a part of a Livingston Manor Central School District's Wellness initiative, we are encouraging families to celebrate their children's birthdays in school in a more healthful way. Families can opt to use the Celebration Cart, for prekindergarten through fourth grades, or Blender Bike, for prekindergarten through sixth grade, in place of traditional food celebrations.
The Blender Bike is a stationary bike that invites students to spin and blend smoothies for the whole class to enjoy.
The Celebration Cart is full of fun games and activities to help celebrate students’ special days.
Families who would like to use the Celebration Cart or Blender Bike should contact their student’s teacher with the child’s name, birthday and which celebration they would like to use at least a week ahead of the desired date of use.
Those who would like to use the Blender Bike must provide materials, such as yogurt, fruit, spinach, etc., to make the smoothies.
More information and the request slip will also be available in an upcoming elementary newsletter.
