Part-time Teacher's Aide 1:1

AVAILABLE: ASAP

QUALIFICATIONS: Civil Service Labor Classification, Aide

DUTIES: Provides general assistance to students in the hallways, bathrooms, locker rooms and other areas in the school buildings and on school grounds as required and monitors student movement and behavior. Reports all instances and observations of unusual activity to Building Principal. Supervise and monitor assigned students closely. Become aware of any assigned students’ disability related and/or medical needs, effective strategies for addressing the students’ needs, and support the implementation of the students’ individualized education programs (IEPs) and/or individual health plans (IHPs).

REPORTS TO: School Business Official, Building Principal, Assistant Principal/CSE Chairperson, Superintendent of Schools

WORKS WITH: Students, staff, parents, administration

APPOINTMENT: Will be made at a Board meeting after recommendations are received by the Superintendent of Schools.

SALARY: As per NYSUT SRP contract, one-year probationary position.

Substitutes

Substitute Cleaner 

AVAILABLE: Immediately

QUALIFICATIONS: None

SALARY: $16 per hour

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This is routine and repetitive manual work calling for the efficient and economical performance of building cleaning and occasional minor maintenance tasks. Cleaning tasks are performed according to a well-established procedure, and maintenance tasks are performed under direct supervision or according to specific instructions. Supervision is received from an assigned supervisor. Supervision over the work of others is not a responsibility of employees of this class.

DUTIES: The typical work activities listed below, while providing representative examples of the variety of work assignments in the title, do not describe any individual position. Incumbents in this title may perform some or all of the following, as well as other related activities not described. Sweeps and mops floors and stairs; Dusts desks, woodwork, furniture and other equipment; Washes windows, walls, blackboards, sinks and other fixtures; Polishes furniture and metal furnishings; Empties waste baskets, collects and disposes of rubbish; Clears snow and ice from walks; May mow lawns, trim shrubs, rake leaves and perform a variety of other grounds-keeping tasks as assigned. Assists in the operation of an oil or gas low-pressure heating system; Delivers packages and messages; Places and removes traffic safety signs; Arranges chairs and tables and other equipment for special use of school building; Repairs window shades, replaces light bulbs, soap and towels; Paints rooms and equipment and assists in making minor plumbing, carpentry and electrical repairs. 

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Working knowledge of building cleaning practices, supplies and equipment; ability to follow simple oral and written instructions; willingness to perform routine cleaning and other manual tasks; ability to get along well with others; willingness to work under all weather conditions; thoroughness; and dependability.

Substitute Food Service Worker

AVAILABLE: Immediately

QUALIFICATIONS:  None

SALARY: $16 per hour

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: Assists in the preparation and service of food and in the cleaning of kitchen equipment; does related work as required. This is routine manual work performed under immediate supervision in connection with the preparation and service of food. On occasion Food Service Helpers may perform cooking duties involving lesser degrees of skill than regularly required of employees in the classification of Cook.

DUTIES: Fills sugar bowls and salt and pepper shakers; Polishes silverware, tables and chairs; Cleans, washes and otherwise prepares vegetables and fruit for cooking; Assists in the preparation of sandwiches and desserts according to diets and menu; Helps Cooks in any phase of their duties; Washes dishes, pots and pans and utensils by hand or machine and puts away in proper place; Sweeps, mops and cleans kitchen; Properly dispose of refuse; Properly put away all deliveries of food and supplies

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Working knowledge of the proper methods of serving food and of the care of tableware, glassware, silver and kitchen appliances; and ability to follow oral and written directions.
